Visas and residence permits China
We cover each basis separately: who qualifies, how much money is needed, what documents are required and how long to wait. 3 detailed breakdowns below.
Grounds China
Start with whichever is closest to your situation. If you are not sure — we’ll work through it together.
First 30 days
What you need to do immediately after entering China: thirty days to apply for a residence permit, fifteen days for the authority to reach a decision, registration at your place of residence within twenty-four hours, and a penalty for unlawful residence — 500 yuan per day, capped at 10,000, or detention.
- 30 days · for filing for a permit
- 15 days · on the authority’s decision
Visa-free
The visa-free regime for standard Russian passports has been extended to 31 December 2027 — announced by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the embassy page still shows the old date. Three separate regimes run alongside it: a 240-hour transit, a 24-hour transit, and 30 days on Hainan.
- 30 days · visa-free entry on a standard passport
- 31.12.2027 · the regime has been extended until this date
Permanent residence
Seven grounds for the ’Chinese green card’ — from investment and senior position to marriage to a citizen and being over sixty. The decision is made within six months and is final. Fee: 1,500 yuan. And the rule that quietly kills the status: fewer than three months in the country in a year, or fewer than one year over a five-year period, and the card is cancelled.

Documents on the ground
Prices are in Chinese yuan and are all-inclusive — nothing is added on top. The dollar figure in brackets is for reference, based on a rate of $1 = ¥6.72. Chinese government fees are paid separately and directly: residence permit 400 ¥ for up to one year and 800 ¥ for one to three years, medical examination 480–500 ¥, permanent residence application 1,500 ¥. Russian consular legalisation costs approximately 8,540 ₽ per document. Government fees are separate unless the line states otherwise. Payment procedure depends on the country and service; the account and contract go where they are needed. If it doesn’t work via on our side — we will refund the money; no one can guarantee approval. A legal consultation — 600 ¥ ($89), it is applied toward the cost of the service.
What else is needed in China
The status is half the move. The other half is housing, a bank account, a school, doctor and documents on the ground. That is handled by the relevant destination sections network, and you won’t have to explain your situation again.
