In brief: the income threshold for a no lucrativa visa is tied to the IPREM benchmark — 400% for the applicant and 100% for each family member. In 2026 year this is 2,400 € per month, or 28,800 € for one year for one person, and 3,600 € per month for a family of three. The funds can be savings, not just income.

Where the figure comes from

IPREM (indicador público de renta de efectos múltiples) — the government the benchmark to which Spain ties the thresholds for benefits, subsidies and immigration requirements. In 2026 year it amounts to 600 € per month and 7,200 € per year — and remains frozen for the fourth year running because no new national budget was never passed. That is exactly why the amounts for no lucrativa have not risen with 2023, unlike thresholds tied to the minimum wage.

The applicant must demonstrate 400% of the IPREM; each family member requires an additional 100%. The requirement is assessed across the entire period of the residence permit, which is why the consulate they look at the annual total, not a monthly statement:

  • One applicant — 2,400 € per month, that is 28,800 € for one year
  • The applicant and one family member — 3,000 € per month, that is 36,000 € for one year
  • The applicant and 2 family member — 3,600 € per month, that is 43,200 € for one year
  • The applicant and 3 family member — 4,200 € per month, that is 50,400 € for one year

The threshold can be demonstrated through savings or regular passive income: rental income, dividends, interest on deposits, pension. Combining sources are also permitted. Earning income in Spain, however, is not: the basis explicitly prohibits employment in the country, and remote work for a foreign employer is also considered employment by most consulates. Those who works remotely — eligible Digital nomad residence permit — there is income not prohibited but mandatory, and the threshold is calculated differently.

The most common mistake in preparation is assuming that having the required balance on in the account on the day of application. Immigration offices in recent years have been looking at traceability: where the money came from, how long it has been held, whether it appeared they are via a one-time transfer from a third party. A sum with no history reads as a loan for submission, and that is a refusal. This is why the financial package is assembled several months before the application, not a week before.

And the second thing people overlook: the extension is granted for two full years at once, and the funds confirmed for the full term — that is approximately 57,600 € per applicant plus per 14,400 € per family member. This amount should be planned for in advance: needed from day one, otherwise a year in you may find the status exists but cannot be renewed nothing to replace it with. Details of the basis are in the breakdown of Residence permit without the right to work.
