Visas and residence permits Turkey’s
We cover each basis separately: who qualifies, how much money is needed, what documents are required and how long to wait. 6 detailed breakdowns below.
Grounds Turkey’s
Start with whichever is closest to your situation. If you are not sure — we’ll work through it together.
Ikamet
Short-term ikamet (kısa dönem ikamet) in Turkey: who can apply, what documents are required, why you need a tax number and a notarised tenancy agreement, why applications are rejected over the address, and what to do if refused.
- 1 year · standard timeline for the first card
- e-ikamet · online applications only
Residence permit through property ownership
Ikamet based on property ownership in Turkey: which properties qualify, why you need a valuation and a currency transfer certificate, why a flat in a closed neighbourhood won’t secure status, and how this route differs from citizenship by investment.
- tapu · basis of the application
- residential · the property must be residential
Citizenship by investment
Turkey’s citizenship-by-investment programme: the $400,000 threshold for real estate and alternatives via deposits and funds, the three-year hold requirement, the process from valuation to passport, and the risks of inflated appraisals and oversold properties.
- 400 000 $ · property threshold
- 3 years · obligation not to sell
Ikamet renewal
How to renew a residence permit in Turkey: how far in advance to apply, what changes compared with the first application, common reasons for refusal on renewal, what to do if you change address, and how accumulated time counts toward long-term status and citizenship.
- 60 days · filing window before the card expires
- 20 working days · deadline to notify of an address change
Work permit
ÇWork permit (çalışma izni) in Turkey: who submits the application, the five-Turkish-employees-per-foreign-national rule, employer capital requirements, minimum salary multiples, which categories are exempt from these criteria, and why the permit replaces an ikamet.
- 5 to 1 · local employees per foreign national
- 500 000 ₺ · paid-up capital of the employer
Citizenship through marriage
Marriage to a Turkish citizen and citizenship: three years under Article 16 of Law 5901, the family unity requirement, how the marriage route differs from naturalisation, how the family is verified, and what happens upon divorce or the spouse’s death.
- 3 years · of marriage before the right to apply
- without residency requirement · no residency requirement

Documents on the ground
Prices are in US dollars; 20% VAT is added on top. Government fees are paid separately and directly. Government fees are separate unless the line states otherwise. Payment procedure depends on the country and service; the account and contract go where they are needed. If it doesn’t work via on our side — we will refund the money; no one can guarantee approval. A legal consultation — 80 $, it is applied toward the cost of the service.
What else is needed in Turkey
The status is half the move. The other half is housing, a bank account, a school, doctor and documents on the ground. That is handled by the relevant destination sections network, and you won’t have to explain your situation again.
